Just do it. You can come up with every excuse in the world not to write. Lord knows, I have:
- I’m too pressed for time. I only have 45 minutes, and how much can you really get accomplished in 45 minutes?
- I’m too tired. Tomorrow’s another day, yes?
- I’m too scattered. I need to wait for a better time when I can focus.
Sit your butt down, make a cup of coffee (or chocolate milk) and just try. The worst that can happen is that you don’t write a single word. But how many times has that really happened? Even if you write a paragraph in that free 45 minutes you have, you’re one step closer to your goal.
As I spend this week and next revising Baby Grand, I will be heeding my own advice. I am astounded again and again by my procrastination and excuses for something that I absolutely love to do. So this week, when you find yourself hemming and hawing, or throwing in the towel before you even start, think of me doing the same and then sitting down at my laptop anyway, quietly brushing all the mental noise away and just doing it.
